I believe genre fiction has gotten generic and doesn't have to be. And I believe — from a literary perspective, at least — that magic should cost something.

I write cozy and witch mysteries about women in midlife who use magic to get unstuck, usually right after they trip over a body. My heroines aren't perfect. They're smart, they struggle, and they succeed, and they're usually carrying more than anyone should have to.

I've published more than 70 novels across multiple series, including the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum, Mystery School, Tea & Tarot, and Wits' End.

Two decades working overseas in international development taught me that perception isn't reality and things are rarely what they seem. Now in my fifties, I'm more interested in the big questions — change and letting go, faith and fear, love and longing — and I find witch fiction and a fictional mystery school a useful place to work them out. I started my own inner work in my fifties, and I can report that it isn't too late for anybody.

I write in a house high on a hill in the Colorado woods and occasionally venture out for wine and pie. There isn't a winter holiday or a type of chocolate I don't love. Some of my best friends are fictional.
