Today I'm doing something different and drawing cards for the year, 2017, rather than just for the month. As usual, I’m drawing one card for each sign from the Tarot’s Major Arcana and the second from its elemental suit. E.g. since Capricorn is an earth sign, one card is drawn from the Major Arcana and one from the Tarot’s earth suit, pentacles, for Capricorn. (Standard disclaimer: Tarotscopes are for entertainment purposes only).

Capricorn, December 22 – January 19: The Magician and the 10 of Pentacles. The stars are in alignment - yes, you can get what you want! But now isn't the time to sit back and wait for it to happen. You need to bring your own dose of magic. Start by knowing exactly what it is you want, and jot down the steps you need to take to get there. Your key word for 2017 is: focus.
Aquarius, January 20 – February 18: The Fool and the Queen of Swords. The Fool leaps before looking and the Queen of Swords weighs all her options carefully before acting. These two cards may seem in opposition, but that's the point. For everything there is a season - to play the Fool and to be the gimlet-eyed queen. This year, you'll need to bring both qualities to the table. Your key words for 2017 are: calculated risk.
Pisces, February 19 – March 20: The Lovers and the 10 of Cups. If you're looking to meet someone special or just deepen relationships with those in your life, this is your year. The 10 of Cups represents the culmination of all good things on the emotional front, and The Lovers card gives it all an added zing. There is a caution, however -- be mindful and choose wisely. Know what it is you truly want, and don't settle. Your key word for 2017 is: intention.
Aries, March 21 – April 19: The Sun and the King of Wands. You're on fire this year, Aries! The blinding power of the solar archetype combines with the magnificent potency, charisma, and drive of the King of Swords, indicating fame, fortune, and fun. When you aim in a direction, there won't be any stopping you. Er, just be sure to aim, won't you? Your key word for 2017 is direction.
Taurus, April 20 – May 20: The World and the Queen of Pentacles. The key word for your 2017 is: fulfillment. Big things are coming your way. Are you ready? So keep your heart and mind open - now is not the time for a "lack" mentality. Have confidence in yourself and your talents, and be prepared to shine.
Gemini, May 21 – June 20: The Hermit and the Ace of Swords. Aces are about initiation and beginnings, but they also contain all the cards within their suit. So Aces are kind of big deals in the Tarot world, heralding powerful and positive beginnings. This Ace is about the mind and intellect, and combined with the Hierophant, whose theme is traditional knowledge, you've basically drawn the "double mind." Use it, and go places, but choose carefully. There may be times when you're required to color inside the lines and others where you kick over tradition and blaze new trail. You'll have to be the judge of what the moment calls for. Your key word for 2017: thoughtfulness.
Cancer, June 21 – July 22: Temperance and the Seven of Cups. So many delights will abound in 2017! Some will be wonderful, and others only seem so. As you make your choice, keep balance in mind. Go inward and ask if this really serves your highest good. Your key word for 2017: balance.
Leo, July 23 – August 22: Death and the Queen of Wands. This year calls for a powerful change - one that's been a long time in coming. And while the loss of the old may be unsettling, the Queen of Wands promises that love and light and wonder are in your future. Trust in the universe and keep your heart open. The sunrise will be glorious. Your key word for 2017: acceptance.
Virgo, August 23 – September 22: The Emperor and the 3 of Pentacles. Your key word for 2017 is: collaboration. The Emperor is the ruler, but he doesn't accomplish things on his own. And you can accomplish great things this year if you approach tasks in an ordered and well-planned fashion. Just keep in mind that other people may have plans of their own. Look for shared goals.
Libra, September 23 – October 22: The Wheel of Fortune and the King of Swords. The Wheel of Fortune can usually go either way -- for good luck or bad. But partnered with the King of Swords, this card heralds growth, prosperity, and good fortune. Just be careful not to waste these opportunities. The Wheel reminds us that nothing lasts forever, and the King that we must use our resources wisely. In short, this is the year to save and invest rather than blow it all on temporary pleasures. Your key word for 2017: Expansion.
Scorpio, October 23 – November 21: The Devil and the Knight of Cups. The good news? The restrictions you may feel this year are largely self-imposed. The bad news is it can be really hard to get out of your own head. But the Knight of Cups offers a way out -- he invites you to charge forward anyway, in spite of your fears, and to listen to the still, deep voice within you to hear the truth. You have the power to rip the blinders off, so 2017 has the potential be a year of tremendous personal growth for you... if you're willing to take the challenge and question your assumptions and beliefs about your own capabilities and about others. Your key words for 2017: clear sight.
Sagittarius, November 22 – December 21: The Tower and the Page of Wands. Something unexpected may knock you off your perch and leave you questioning everything you thought was true. These celestial kicks in the ego generally do not feel good on impact. However, the Page of Wands tells us that what's really happening is an opportunity for growth on the soul level. Our ego self is not our friend, and every time we allow it to be chipped away, our soul has an opportunity to get out of its shadow and flourish. So be the Page of Wands - move forward with wonder and hope, because 2017 is clearing the way for new growth and joy, if you'll allow it. Your key word for 2017: seeker.
