Hi, Everyone! Maddie here. We've got a LOT of cryptid news this week, so let's get started!

1) Out in Idaho, a group of teens on a camping trip had what sounds like a full-on Bigfoot convention crashing their weekend. They reported tall, dark figures circling their site, strange knocking sounds, handprints on vehicles, and even a shot fired in the chaos. One BFRO investigator who talked to them seems convinced they weren't making it up. Whether it was actual Sasquatches or something else that got misinterpreted in the woods, things can feel off quickly when you're out there alone at night.

2) On a different note, there's a thoughtful piece in Psychology Today about experiences that just don't slot neatly into our usual explanations. Things like a woman seeing her deceased father who warned her about a clot that turned out to be real, or other moments where hallucinations seem to carry accurate info nobody should have known. The author talks about how some of these edge cases push against our categories and leave us with more questions than answers. What are the limits of what we think we understand?

3) Then there's some good discussion on the fringes of science, where folks like Henry Bauer point out that topics once dismissed as nonsense sometimes turn out to have real meat to them. He dives into the Loch Ness situation specifically, noting how smart people can look at the same evidence and come to opposite conclusions. It's a solid reminder that the debate keeps going because the data keeps showing up in ways that are hard to wave away entirely.

4)Speaking of Nessie, the annual hunt is underway at Loch Ness with an underwater drone mapping the depths of Urquhart Bay. New sightings have already popped up this year, and the whole event draws crowds who want to scan the water and soak up the mystery. Classic stuff.

5) And on the more modern weird front, there's a wave of folks on TikTok talking about Grabovoi numbers — strings of digits to focus on to heal pain, attract money, or manifest whatever you need. The idea traces back to a Russian guy with a colorful history, mixed up with some old CIA-adjacent research on consciousness and out-of-body stuff from the Monroe Institute days. It's the sort of thing that spreads fast because who wouldn't want a simple trick for making life better? But as with a lot of these trends, it seems more like a mental distraction technique than actual magic. It shows how hungry people are for anything that feels like it might give them an edge on the unknown.

If you're enjoying these weekly dispatches and want more ghostly mysteries with a side of small-town sleuthing, you might like the stories I've lived through myself in the Perfectly Proper Paranormal Museum cozy mystery series. Swing by the museum in San Benedetto sometime—we've got signed copies on the shelves, and I'd love to chat about your own spooky encounters.
